It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene K. Steinmetz (Nema), who left us peacefully on February 8, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on May 19, 1932, to her loving parents, the late Albert and Katherine (Griglak) Grivalsky. Irene lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering strength. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was the wife of the late Dr.Charles Steinmetz Jr. for 54 years.
Irene was lovingly known by many as "Saint Irene", a nickname that reflected her deep devotion to her catholic faith and her kind, giving spirit. She had a profound love for nature and travel, finding peace in the beauty of the world around her. Irene was formerly of New Smyrna, Florida and Edinburg, New York, places that held many cherished memories throughout her life. Above all else, her children, grandchildren, and friends meant the world to her. They remained the greatest joy and purpose of her life.
A devoted mother, Irene is survived by her beloved children, Kathy Gagne (Michael James Gagne) and Steven Steinmetz (Louise Steinmetz) who cherished their bond and the many cherished memories they created together. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Ryan Gagne, Tyler Mathew Gagne, William Travers Steinmetz and Charles Dylan Steinmetz. Irene's life was marked by her commitment to family and her ability to bring warmth and joy to those around her. Her spirit and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17th at 10 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield, 02879. Burial to be announced.
In honoring Irene's memory, let us remember the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind. She will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
