Irene H. Smith

Irene H Smith 98, of South Kingstown, lovingly known as Gigi went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 25th. Born in Boston, MA to the late Herbert & Hazel Reicker on May 13, 1927, she was the devoted wife of Rev. Donald Smith until his passing in 1996.

Loving mother of three sons Herbert (Kathy) of Skamania Washington, Douglas, and Jonathan (Kathy) of South Kingstown. Gigi leaves 6 grandchildren, Corrie Ann, Deborah, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Allison, & Andrew, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was the eldest of three girls and grew up in Malden, MA, attending Maplewood Baptist Church where she accepted the Lord at age 9. Irene had a passion to serve her Lord by playing the piano in church, directing the choir, and leading women’s Bible studies. She was an educator who taught 4th and 5th grade classes at Narragansett Elementary School and West Bay Christian Academy. She enjoyed traveling to visit with family in the US and Canada. Two highlighted trips, included her and Dons trip to the Holy Land and a river cruise in Europe for her 90th birthday. She was an avid volunteer for JAARS mission in NC. Irene loved picking blueberries and strawberries in Maine with her family and friends. She was an avid New England sports fan except for hockey because she said she could never understand the game.

A graveside service will be held on June 7th at 9:45 am at New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston RI followed by a Celebration of Life at First Baptist Church of Narragansett (305 Kingstown Rd) at 11am.

In lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Narragansett Missions Fund, or The Welcome House in Peace Dale.
