Irene A. Sherman, 88, of Peace Dale, died Wednesday. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Sherman. Born in Exeter, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Agnes (Edwards) Cottrell. Mrs. Sherman had been employed at Green Plastics in the Kenyon Mill for many years, and was a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered as being a devoted mother and Christian. She is survived by five sons, Rev. Daniel Sherman of Sarasota, FL, Leonard J. Sherman of Richmond, Elwood D. Sherman of Richmond, Gary A. Sherman of Westerly, Brian D. Sherman of Westerly; six daughters, Linda M. Pinder of Peace Dale, Elaine J. Bishop of Ashaway, Laurie J. DiSalvo of Hopkinton, Gale D. Sherman of Peace Dale, Carol L. Guarriello of Peace Dale, and Sandra L. Gallup of Wakefield; a sister, Katherine Foster of Charlestown; thirty four grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children, Lorraine J. Tierney and Lorna J. Sherman; two grandchildren Kerry Chambers and Eric Sherman; and three siblings, Melvin Cottrell, Alvin Cottrell and Flora LaPlume. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
