It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Frances Lener, a beloved mother, grandmother,dedicated professional, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully on August 8, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 6, 1942, in the Bronx, NY, Irene's spirit and warmth touched the lives of many.
Irene pursued her education with determination, earning a Bachelor's Degree that would pave the way for a rewarding career as an Occupational Therapist. Her passion for helping others was evident throughout her life's work, and she devoted herself to improving the lives of those around her with compassion and kindness.
In her later years, Irene made her home in Vero Beach, Florida, where she continued to nurture her love of her pet dog Duke, cats, gardening, the ocean, and the sunshine. She always found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Irene is remembered not only for her professional dedication but also for her vibrant spirit and the kindness she so effortlessly shared with everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and love that will resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Robert Mittelstadt, her sister Frances Cipriano, parents Mary and Frank Lener.
Irene was survived by her daughter Julie McNichol, her son Leonard Giordano, cherished grandchildren Daniel, Christina, Elizabeth McNichol, Paige, Kathryn, Jason Giordano, former Daughter-in-Law Janine Willoughby, the beloved extended Mittelstadt family of children and grandchildren, as well as adored Goddaughter Kimberly Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Irene's memory to a charity of your choice, furthering her legacy of care and generosity. Irene Frances Lener will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
Internment service will be held at 10:30 am September 10, 2026, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, located at 50 Jackson Avenue Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706.
