In Loving Memory of Ingrid B. Trager (Hirt), with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ingrid B. Trager, who left us suddenly on April 4th, 2024. Living in East Matunuck with her family since 1976, Ingrid had made many wonderful friends over the years.
Ingrid was born in Germany, in 1943 and grew up in Post WWII Berlin. She was the youngest of 4 children. She is predeceased by her mother Martha Lisbeth Gertrude Hirt (Berger), and her father Erich Emil Robert Hirt, Sister Giesela Both and Brother Michael Hirt. Her sister Hannelore Bogen and her husband, still live in Germany along with many extended family members.
A remarkable woman of grace, wisdom, boundless compassion, and silent strength, Ingrid was the matriarch of the Trager family, whose legacy of love and dedication will forever be cherished.
Ingrid was the beloved wife of Robert Trager, her soulmate and partner through 54 memorable years of marriage. Together, with their sons, they ran Skip's Dock, a cornerstone of the Fishing Village of Jerusalem, and a symbol of their shared commitment to hard work and service. Under their stewardship, Skip's Dock became more than just a business. The Trager family ran Skip’s Dock for 43 of its nearly 100 years. With Ingrid at the helm keeping the ship on course.
A proud mother to three sons and their wives, Robert Trager (Heather), Chris Trager (Susan), and Erik Trager (Catherine), Ingrid's greatest joy was her family. She instilled in her sons the values of integrity, resilience, and empathy, guiding them with her strength and unwavering support. Her ten grandchildren, Jessica, William, Benjamin, Samuel, Joshua, Jillian, Meghan, Melanie, Nathanael, and Harrison were the light of her life. Ingrid's love for them knew no bounds, she cherished every moment spent in their company.
Wintering in NH, and hosting at Bretton Woods Ski Resort, was where she once again became an avid bridge player, Ingrid's strategic mind and competitive spirit were admired by all who knew her. Her love for the game was matched only by her skill and the deep friendships she forged over the card table. Playing multiple times a week, it was something she really looked forward to. Another one of Ingrid’s rituals was the daily backgammon games with her husband Robert in NH. They had long seasonal win/loss lists for each year. She could roll doubles like no one else!
Ingrid went back and forth to NH many times a year, she spent the winter months there for many years now. Most of her trip’s home to Rhode Island just happened to be perfectly timed for an early dinner at Richard’s Pub. How about that?
As well as bridge games, Ingrid enjoyed golf, having spent many years playing in leagues in Rhode Island. There were also many rounds played with Robert, often at Wood River Golf before dinner at the 11th Hole.
Ingrid's green thumb was evident by the many plants she kept around their home, adding beauty and life to each room.
Ingrid's legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye, we also celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who touched so many with her kindness, her laughter, and her love. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
The family requests a private ceremony with a future celebration of life down the line. Information to come.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to the Audubon Society of RI (Ingrid was an avid bird lover for many years), or to the Pt. Judith Fisherman’s Memorial Scholarship Fund.
