Hugh V. Doolin,Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine Aubin Doolin. They had been married for 63 years. A true love story. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Dr. Hugh V Doolin Sr. and Julia (Woodlock) Doolin. He was the brother of the late Claire (Doolin) McKinnon of Pawtucket. Hugh was a member of one of Rhode Island’s oldest Optical families. His Father founded the Optical Shop Inc. in 1929. After graduating College, Hugh joined him in 1953 and eventually became President and CEO of the company until his retirement in 1998. Hugh was a two term President of the RI Association of Registered Opticians. He served 10 years on the Advisory committee for Opticians and also served as Vice President on the Board for the Prevention of Blindness. A Korean War Veteran, he was a member of the Eye Clinic in Tokyo Army Hospital serving from 1951-1953. After retirement, Hugh spent many years enjoying time with his family at his home in Galilee. He took a special interest in the Port of Galilee serving on the advisory board for the preservation of Galilee and to maintain its charming integrity. He loved swimming, biking, fishing and daily walks into town to visit all the local shop owners for which they coined him “The Mayor of Galilee”. He was an avid sports fan of all New England Sports teams especially the New England Patriots. He was the loving father of the late Hugh V Doolin III, the late Lori J (Doolin) Kelley and his daughter Cheryl L (Doolin) Walason of Warwick. He leaves two grandchildren, Nicholas A Walason and Emily L Walason of Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited to Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield on Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. In Lieu of flowers a donation can made to The Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org.
