Hope A. Hickey, 80, of Narragansett, passed away unexpectedly on August 1st, surrounded by her loving family. She was married to her best friend and beloved husband of 57 years, the late John R. Hickey. Hope was a proud resident of Narragansett for over 55 years where she was an active member of St. Thomas More parish, teaching catechism, heading the church’s floral and decorative efforts for at least a decade and heading the funeral luncheon committee for many years . Hope took great pride and passion in bettering the Narragansett and South County community as a longtime member of the Narragansett Garden Club, working at the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce, delivering Meals on Wheels throughout South County, and participating in civic activities alongside her husband John. Hope’s love for flowers spurred her to plant flowers for many years at the town Wishing Well, Towers, and Rotary, as well as founding her own floral arts business, Beach Plum Creations, with her dear friend Gail Figgins. Until recently, Hope was also a member of the Narragansett Notables singing ensemble. Born in Buttonwoods (Warwick), Hope was the daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Scott) Reilly. She attended St. Xavier’s High School, and graduated from Rhode Island College in 1958 earning a degree in Education. Following college, Hope taught 3rd grade in the Wickford Elementary School. A kind and caring woman, Hope is survived by her three children, Jonathan (Christine), Kate and Ryan (Fulya). She was the sister of Frances (Jerry), and pre-deceased brother Peter. She was a caring and supportive Nana to Connor, Cameron, Ruya and Devrim. Hope truly enjoyed bringing joy to others. She will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her and whose many lives she touched. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4th from 4-7pm at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 5th at 10:00am in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
