Hilding T. Munson

Hilding T. Munson Jr., 81, of Snug Harbor, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025 at South County Hospital. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Hilding K. and Alice R. (Donilon) Munson of Narragansett. He was the loving husband of Judith A. (Frongillo) Munson for 48 years.

Hilly was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School and URI and served in Korea in the Army during the Vietnam era. He had a life-long entrepreneurial spirit. In his youth he delivered the Providence Journal and worked summers in construction. He was life-long paper carrier, delivered flowers for Scott the Florist, was a RI State Correctional Officer and for thirty-five years was a RI State Sheriff, retiring as a sergeant.

His proudest accomplishment was his 63 years serving with the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Department . He was Captain for 20 years and was currently serving as president of the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. Hilly was known around town as the South Kingstown Police Department Traffic Constable and loved working details.

A dedicated volunteer with Special Olympics RI, he worked every summer for over fifty years. Hilly was a proud member of the VFW 916 and especially loved decorating veterans’ graves on Memorial Day. He was also an active participant at Christ the King Church, Kingston.

Hilly was the loving father of, Kristin M. Munson (Brandon Morgan) and Hilding T. Munson II (Alba Davenport). He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Lynn Mary Munson and Teresa C. Giviens and a nephew, Ryan D. Giviens. He is predeceased by his sister, Patrice A. Munson.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 21st from 4-7 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22nd at 11 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston.
