Hilary Clancy Hanumara

Hanumara, Hilary Clancy, age 74, passed away Tuesday April 29th at her home in Kingston, RI. Hilary was the beloved wife for 45 years of R. Choudary Hanumara and mother of Nevan Hanumara. She was born in Galway, Ireland to Patrick Clancy of Sligo and Florence Taafe of Galway. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by four brothers Conal, Dermot, Noel and Niall Clancy, two sisters-in-law, Ann and Geraldine, and fifteen nieces and nephews. Hilary was a graduate of University College Dublin and received her Masters in Social Work from Florida State University. It is there that she met Choudary in 1964. After working at mental health facilities in Florida and following graduation, in 1969 she moved with her husband to Kingston, where he taught at URI for 43 years. In the early stages of her career, she worked as a Psychotherapist and Clinical Administrator at the Washington County Mental Health Center; she later moved into private practice, specializing in employee assistance programs and family therapy. She was highly regarded as a clinician, conducted workshops and mentored students entering the profession. Hilary retired in 2010. Hilary was active in South County community and served on the Boards of organizations including Seniors Helping Others, Volunteers in Action and Msgr. Clarke School, as well as volunteered with other community organizations. She was an avid gardener, singlehandedly landscaping the family home, a theatre aficionado and was published in newspapers and magazines. She will be missed, but not forgotten by those she loved and whose lives she influenced and touched. Visiting hours will be held from 6 9 PM on Friday May 2nd at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield (averystortifuneralhome.com). The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday May 3rd at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston followed by burial at New Fernwood Cemetery, Rt. 138, Kingston.
