Henry J. “Harry" Yakey, 65, of Houston Ave, died Friday. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Harry C. and Elizabeth (O’Neil) Yakey. Mr. Yakey was a Mathematics Teacher for Portsmouth Middle and High Schools and Narragansett High School for over forty years and was RIDE certified. He was a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church and a choir member for over thirty-five years. He played Santa Claus all over RI for many years, was an avid fisherman and boater. Mr. Yakey lived in South County most of his life and enjoyed being an active member of the community. He leaves two daughters, Megan Verry of Narragansett and Elizabeth Kearns formerly of RI; a brother Richard Yakey and his wife Sandra Lee of Narragansett; a sister Maryann Comstock of Warwick; three grandchildren, Joshua Bowen, Maeve Martineau and Abigail Verry. He was brother of the late James E. and Thomas A. Yakey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-7 PM in the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Henry Yakey Education Fund c/o Citizens Bank, 51 Main St., Wakefield, RI 02879.
