Helen M. Nicholas

Nicholas, Helen (Jason), age 92, of North Village Apartments in Narragansett, Rhode Island, went home to the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Roberts Nursing Home in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Born in Pawtucket Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Silva) Jason. She was the widow of Fred A. Nicholas and the former wife of Thomas F. O’Brien of Peace Dale. Helen is survived by her beloved family, daughter Gail Moran and her husband John Moran of Wakefield and her grandchildren Scott T. Moran and wife Ruth of North Bend, WA, Bonnie S. Moran of Ascot, United Kingdom and her husband Mihos Vassilopoulos and Laura J. Moran of Milanville, PA and her partner, John Roth. Helen was the sister of the late Mabel M. Jason and Violet G. Motta. She was also the step-daughter of the late Leon Kazarian. Helen was the great grandmother of four cherished granddaughters, Sarah Moran, Corinna Vaca-Moran, Marina and Arianna Vassilopoulos. Helen worked in the corporate office of the former Outlet Company in Providence and as a buyer for the Shepherd Company in Providence. She moved to New York City after her marriage to Fred Nicholas in 1966 where she began a new career as an auditor at the Home Insurance Company on Wall Street until her retirement. At that time, she and Fred moved to Narragansett. Helen was an avid reader, crossword puzzle expert, loved to travel and was an excellent cook. Her wonderful sense of humor and optimistic outlook sustained her throughout her life. Her abundant love and caring ways toward her family and friends will always be remembered, as will her independent spirit. She devoted her life to her family, frequently writing loving notes to each one, baking special treats for them and always being there to listen and share a laugh. A funeral Mass to honor her life will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street in Wakefield on Wednesday March 28, 2012 at 9:00 am.
