Helen W. Lundberg

Helen W. Lundberg, 95, of South Kingstown, passed away on June 17, 2018. Born January 18,1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Ralph H. and Mildred G. (white) Wright. She was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and received a masters degree from Columbia University. Helen was an educator traveling across the country for both Singer Sewing Co. and Simplicity Pattern Co. She later became a Clothing Specialist for the Penn State University Cooperative Extension program. Later she took a similar position at the University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension, teaching clothing and budgeting skills to groups in the community. One of her specialties was teaching how to adapt clothing fasteners to Velcro for seniors and handicapped. For many years she volunteered at the Jonnycake Center in Peace Dale, South County Hospital and the Scallop Shell Nursing Home, where she fed patients and led hymn sings. Helen was a skilled knitter, and made beautiful sweaters, scarves and blankets for friends and charities. She was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, and held many positions including Deacon, clerk and Women's Fellowship president. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 2pm in Wakefield Baptist Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main St., Wakefield, RI, 02879.
