Harry Perry Dr. Jeffries

April 15, 1929 — July 31, 2017

Dr. Harry Perry Jeffries, Professor Emeritus of Oceanography, passed away at the Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family, on Monday July 31st. Father of Christie, Anne, Elizabeth, Janet and Matthew, grandfather of Nicholas, Cory, Miranda, Hope and Wyatt and great-grandfather of Abigael, Soren,Cyrus, Novelle and Elyse. Beloved husband of Dolores Jeffries and stepfather of James, Margot , Kevin and Bruce and grandfather of Michael, Marie Claire, Isabel, Jacqueline, Madeleine, Kate, James, Joseph, Matthew, Malcom, Maeve and Duncan. Dr. Perry was a wonderful man of letters, a lover of nature and science. He was an educator, wood worker, cyclist and photographer. A man with great passion for family, possessing Yankee ingenuity and spiritual wonder. Perry had a long and successful academic career as a pioneer in the science of oceanography. He was a long serving member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and President of the New England Estuarian Research Society. He was a Lieutenant in the US Infantry, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and a doctoral professor from Rutgers University. May he rest in peace with the Lord. A memorial service will be held at St Augustine’s Church 15 Lower College Road Kingston, Rhode Island (401-783-2153 ) on Friday August 4th at 10:30 am. https://web.uri.edu/gso/h-perry-jeffries/.
