Rev. Harry Frederick Boehmke, 87, formerly of East Greenwich and South Kingstown, died peacefully on July 20, surrounded by his family. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was a son of the late August J. and Louise (Heinemann) Boehmke. He attended Bowdoin College and graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Industrial & Labor Relations. He then took a job with General Electric. After becoming a Christian, he entered Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Massachusetts, graduating with a Master’s degree in Divinity. Later, he earned a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling from Andover-Newton Theological Seminary. Reverend Boehmke was an ordained minister for over 40 years, serving as Pastor at Frenchtown Baptist Church in East Greenwich for 25 years. He also served in West Stephentown, NY, Newport and Block Island. He was a member of the South County Clergy Association and the Evangelical Ministers Fellowship. During the summers of 1991, 92 and 93, he taught English as a Second Language in China. He also taught English as a Second Language at the Washington County Adult Learning Center. He sang with the Peace Dale House chorus and the Narragansett Notables. He was stationed in Greenland while serving in the US Army Air Force during WW II. Surviving are: two siblings - Rev. A. Karl Boehmke of St. Louis, MO and Jean M. Schwartz of Atlanta, GA and Buffalo, NY; three children -David G. Boehmke of East Providence, Ellen C. Atkin of Coventry, and Daniel B. Boehmke of San Jose, CA; three grandchildren - Bethany, Larissa, and Michael; and one great grandson due in November. Also surviving is Carol Boehmke of East Greenwich. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Narragansett, 305 Kingstown Road, August 15 at 3:00pm. A private burial with military honors will be held at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, 6400 Schroeder Road, PO Box 7895, Madison, WI 53707-7895.
