H. Milton Read, Jr.

H. Milton Read Jr., 85, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2018. Milt was the beloved husband of Nancy (Nelson) Read, celebrating 63 wonderful years of marriage in May of this year. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Herman M. and Margaret (Martin) Read. Milt earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island, Class of 1954. Milt was employed as a Vice-President at Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank for 24 years and then the Washington Trust Company for 15 years, retiring in 1998. Milt served two years in the U.S Army and retired as a Colonel after 20 years of service in the U.S Army Reserves. Milt was well known in South County through his service to many organizations and committees. He served as President of the U.R.I Alumni Association and was a dedicated Rhody fan! Family was always the most important aspect of his life. Besides his wife Nancy, he is survived by a brother Philip Read, and his partner Bill Graham of Danvers, MA and four sons: Jeffrey Read and his wife Donna of Atlanta Georgia, David Read and former wife Kim of Westerly, Stephen Read and his wife Carol of Medfield, MA and Bradford Read and his wife Mel of Milford, MA. He was a proud and loving Grandfather to Branden, Tara, Ashley, Austin, Kyle, Samantha, Garrett, Lindsey, Spencer, Stephanie and Sophia and two- great grandchildren Ella and Kylie. Known for his happy demeanor and zest for life Milt treasured time with his family and friends skiing at Waterville Valley, swimming at Narraganset Beach, playing golf and traveling. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 26th at the Church of the Ascension, Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail Exeter. Visiting hours are scheduled for Tuesday from 4:00 -7:00 pm at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield.
