Gloria Westlake, 91, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17th surrounded by her family. Born in South Kingstown, RI she was the loving daughter of the late Carl and Mary “May” (Whaley) Lewis. Gloria was the beloved wife of Joseph Westlake for 71 years.
Gloria was born and raised in Wakefield, often roller-skating up and down the town streets. She was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and shortly thereafter, met the love of her life, Joe. They were married on August 27, 1952 and eventually settled in Belle Mead, New Jersey. In 1998, they retired back to Wakefield. Gloria was always social and outgoing, joining many different organizations throughout her lifetime. She was involved in many community affairs and headed many committees. Among the many organizations she joined, she was the president of the Princeton Embroiderers Guild, as well as, The Quononoquott Garden Club of Jamestown. She loved to be in her garden. She hosted many parties and very much enjoyed shopping! Gloria was also extremely generous to her friends and family. Gloria’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Brad Westlake (Dale Richmond), Rachel Grindrod (Sean), her grandchildren, Tom Westlake (Jennifer) and Bill Westlake (Suzy), and her great-grandchildren, T.J., Tiffany, Mason, Emily, and Camryn. She is also survived by her brother, Curtis Lewis (Janet), as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Carl and Mary Lewis, brother, Carl Lewis and sister, Isabelle Ferraro.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21st at 11 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, 02879.
