Gerard Jerry Wood

October 11, 1920 — April 16, 2015

Gerard “Jerry” Wood, 94 of Westerly, and formerly of Bradenton, Florida, died Thursday. He wa the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Adler) Wood. Born in Copiague, Long Island, NY, he was a son of the late Howard & Sarah (Williams) Wood. Mr. Wood retired from the New York Bell Telephone Company, and was the former owner for 25 years, of the Meadowbrook Inn in Charlestown, which he sold in 2005. He served in World War II and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for valor and bravery. He was a member of the American Legion Post 360 in New York, the VFW Post # 1469, both in New York, the New York Telephone Company Pioneers, and the Sheriffs Association Florida. He is survived by two sons, Reed and his wife Dee, and Robert and his wife Patricia. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Lincoln, Gretchen, and Christine; and two great-grandchildren Victoria and Zachary. He was the father of the late Gerard J. Wood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Monday 4 -7 pm.
