George F. Smith

April 27, 1950 — July 24, 2020

George F. Smith, 70, of Narragansett, passed away Friday. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Taylor) Smith. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George W. and Grace (Huntoon) Smith. He was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. Mr. Smith was employed by the former DeBlois Oil Company for several years. He was also an entrepreneur who was involved with starting and owning many businesses. He enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, and was a New England sports fan as well as a loyal supporter of URI Athletics. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons Nicholas Adam Smith of Providence, Zachary Charles Smith of East Greenwich, Alexander Jeffrey Smith of East Greenwich, and Eric Taylor Ims of New Jersey; a sister Kathy Smith; and his dog Taylor and his grand-dog Buckley. He was predeceased by a sister Barbara Spencer. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday July 29th , 10 am – 12 Noon, followed by a service at 12 Noon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cardiology Dept., South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879.
