George E. Sherman

George E. Sherman, 73, of Curtis Corner Road, died Friday at home. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Rogers) Sherman, they were married 50 years. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Rowland L. and Elizabeth (Teft) Sherman. Mr. Sherman was the owner and founder of George Sherman Sand & Gravel Company, which he established in 1958. He was a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of American (LICA) and the Rhode Island Independent Contractors. Mr. Sherman served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed farming, building ponds, gardens and creative landscaping. Surviving besides his wife are his children, Deborah L. Sherman-Quigley and her husband Dean B. and Stephen G. Sherman and his wife Bethanie D., all of Wakefield, two grandsons, Brandan Sherman and Dylan Quigley, two brothers, Rowland “Pee Wee” Sherman of Narragansett and Gardner Sherman of Wakefield, three sisters, Elizabeth Lillibridge of Wakefield, Carol McGovern of Narragansett and Sally Reposa of West Kingston. He was the brother of the late Neal Sherman and Emily Richards. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central Street, Narragansett. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM in the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield.
