George Howard Peavey, aged 95, passed away on July 27, 2024, in Wakefield, RI. George dedicated his life to his family, his work, and his country.
Born on May 29, 1929, in Chicago, IL, George served honorably as a tank instructor in the Army from 1951 to 1953. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a journeyman machinist, a role he approached with diligence and pride.
In 1954, George married Joyce Bruhn, and together they raised their daughters in Wheeling, IL. He was an avid bowler and loved to golf. George took great pride in his home and, alongside Joyce, worked tirelessly to maintain their yard, pool, and gardens. He had a knack for fixing things, lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends whenever they needed assistance. He was always thinking of others and went out of his way to help.
When his company decided to relocate to a city that he felt was not a good fit for his young family, George embraced a new challenge and became a senior specialist for construction materials consultants, Erlin & Hime Associates now known as WJE. One of the company founders was his next-door neighbor and great family friend, Bernie Erlin. He loved his new career and the opportunities it brought him.
After retirement, George and Joyce moved to Cutler Bay, Florida, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. As a loving father and grandfather, George is survived by his daughters, Linnell and Sandy, as well as his grandchildren, Chris, Katie, Hank, and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce.
Nothing was more important to George than his family. He was never happier than when surrounded by his children and grandchildren, especially at his favorite place on earth—Disney World. George and Joyce took their daughters there when the park first opened, and once in Florida, they became frequent visitors. Their photo albums are filled with cherished pictures of the gardens that George adored.
In honoring George's wishes, there will be no formal service. He loved walking through Wilcox Park in Westerly, RI, and reading all the signs on the trees. A tree will be planted there as a living tribute to George and Joyce, symbolizing their enduring love and legacy.
