George F. Briggs Sr., 78, of South Kingstown, died Monday at Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the former husband of Doris (Dimon) Briggs-Clark and companion of Mary Daignault. Born in South Kingstown, he was the son of the late John E. and Helen K. (Gavitt) Briggs. Mr. Briggs was a commercial fisherman out of Galilee for several years. He was the owner and operator of Georges Sewerage Service for twenty five years and retired as a commercial shell fisherman after many years. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and traveling. He loved listening to country western music and going to fairs. He was the father of George F. Briggs Jr., Timothy L. Briggs, Charlene (Briggs) Gardner and the late David E. Briggs; brother of James and Robert Briggs, Helen Frye, Theresa Frisella, the late John Briggs and Ethel Westcott; grandfather of nine and great grandfather of eighteen. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-8 PM.
