Garry L. Balestracci

Garry L. Balestracci, 61, of Charlestown, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Born in South Kingstown, he was the son of Helen Balestracci of Florida and the late Herc Balestracci. Mr. Balestracci started his career at Electric Boat as an electrician and in 1974 moved up to Radiation Safety Officer. He was nationally recognized, speaking at various conferences, consulting and teaching courses. His work helped protect those working with radiation. Was also a consultant for the movie Titanic. He was a graduate of Chariho High School, class of 1972; loved to travel, bowl, play cards, go to the theater, and spend time with his grandchildren; was involved in the community and was state secretary for youth bowling for many years. Besides his mother he is survived by two sons, Shawn A. Balestracci of Portland, OR and Mark E. Balestracci and his wife Diane of Lockport, NY; two grandchildren, Christina and Andrew Balestracci; a brother, Terry Balestracci and his wife Loretta of Florida; his companion, Melissa Westgate of Florida and his beloved cats. His funeral service and burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to any “NoKill” animal shelter or rescue of your choice.
