Brother Philip Bergeron, FSC, died Thursday November 5, 2015 in the Brothers’ Community, La Salle Academy, Providence, RI. Brother Philip was a De La Salle Christian Brother for 70 years. Brother Philip was born in Providence, RI on March 22, 1928 to Philip and Irene (Robinson) Bergeron. He is survived by his sister, Joan Miga of Jupiter, Florida, and his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Carol (Rogers) Bergeron of Jupiter, Florida and his sisters-in-law Dolores (Casey) Bergeron and Shirley (Boudreau) Bergeron and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and William, his sister, Eileen, and his brother-in-law, Edward Miga, Sr. Brother Philip received the Religious Habit on September 7, 1945 in Barrytown, NY. He taught at Incarnation School, Holy Name School and La Salle Academy in New York City. He taught at La Salle Military Academy on Long Island and at Bishop Loughlin Mem. H.S. in Brooklyn. He was an outstanding Speech and Debate Coach. In 1967 he returned to Providence and to La Salle Academy where he taught English, Film Study and Video Animation. He also served as videographer for the school. He retired from teaching in 2001. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 3:30 – 5:30 pm at Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI. There will also be viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Star at Christian Brothers Center, Narragansett, RI. Burial will be in the Brothers’ Cemetery, Narragansett, RI. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the De La Salle Christian Brothers Retirement Fund, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI 02882.
