Brother Michael G. Dundin, F.S.C. of Providence, Rhode Island died peacefully Friday, November 18, 2016 after more than 5 years at De La Salle Hall in Lincroft, New Jersey. Brother Michael graduated from St. Augustine School (Fruit Hill) in 1955, LaSalle Academy in 1959. He excelled in long distance running at LaSalle on both the track and cross country teams. Brother Michael received the religious habit of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Barrytown, New York receiving the religious name Brother Michael Calixtus on September 7, 1959. Graduating from Catholic University with a degree in Latin and Greek, Brother Michael began his teaching career teaching religion, Latin, art, ceramics and mechanical drawing at the Prout School (Wakefield), LaSalle Academy (Providence), at Mwaganza Center in Nakuru, Kenya, as well as various schools in New York. In 1974 Brother Michael received an M.F.A. degree in painting from the Catholic University. He has studied art at the Art Students League of New York City, was the resident artist at the Woodstock School of Art, and has had his works featured in shows and galleries in New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. His illustrations have also been featured in publications from Saint Mary’s Press, Winona, Minnesota, and Sadlier & Company of New York City. Brother Michael was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Senior and Ruth, and his older brother Daniel. He is survived his sister, Sister Ann Dundin FMM, and by his brother Thomas Dundin (wife Patricia deceased), 4 nephews, and 2 nieces. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in the Blue Room at Stevenson Hall of Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of the Star chapel (on the property) at 10:30 a.m. with burial following immediately in The Brothers’ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Br. Michael’s memory to Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI 02882.
