Fsc Brother John J. Norton

Brother John J. Norton, FSC, 93, of the Christian Brothers Community, De La Salle Hall, Lincroft, NJ, died on Friday, March 18, 2016. Born in Milford, MA, on May 8, 1922, son of the late Peter and Catherine (Cornell) Norton. He was the brother of the late William, Anna Boardman, Rita, Theresa, James and Joseph. He was the uncle of nine nieces and nephews. He entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools at Barrytown, NY, in 1953 and received the habit in September of that year. He pronounced his final vows in 1959 in Barrytown, NY. Brother John received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, in 1958 and a Master's degree from St. John’s University in Sacred Science and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Manhattan College. Brother John began his teaching career at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in 1958. From there he served as Vice Principal and later in Guidance at Mater Christi High School in Astoria, NY. His other assignments were at La Salle Academy, Providence, RI as Principal, St. Bernard’s High School, Uncasville, CT, in Guidance, and Ocean Tides as a Family Counselor and Family Court Liaison until his retirement in 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Star Chapel, Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI. Burial will be in the Brothers’ Cemetery at the Center. Visiting hours will be from 4:00-7:00 on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Christian Brothers Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christian Brothers Center for the St. John Baptist de La Salle Fund to assist in providing assistance for needy students to continue their Lasallian education. .
