Brother Amian Paul Goodwin, FSC, born Donald Goodwin on July 3, 1936 in New York City, a teacher at La Salle Academy, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at De La Salle Hall in Lincroft, New Jersey. He was the son of James and Catherine (Quinn) Goodwin. He is survived by his brother, James, his wife Laura of Pennington, NJ and their Children: Jeanne Whalen, Laura-Marie Goodwin and Lesley Goodwin. Brother Paul received the Religious Habit and began his Novitiate at Barrytown, New York on May 14, 1954. He did his undergraduate studies and received his B.A. degree, Summa Cum laude, Phil Beta Kappa from the Catholic University of America in 1959. After graduating, his first assignment was as a teacher at La Salle Academy in Providence. After six years in Providence he went to Mater Christi High School in Astoria, Queens, NY where he served as a teacher for one year, Vice-Principal for one year and then Principal for three years. In 1970 he was asked to serve as Vice-President for Education for the LINE Province. A year later he went to teach at La Salle Military Academy in Oakdale, Long Island, NY. From 1972 74 he served as Principal and Vice-President at La Salle Military Academy. During the Academic Year 1974-75 he was Principal of his alma mater, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY. In 1975 he returned to La Salle Military Academy where he served for twenty years as a teacher, Prefect and Academic Dean; from 1993 95 he was Head of La Salle Prep. In 1995 he returned to La Salle Academy in Providence as a teacher and served in that role until January, 2014 when he became ill. Bro. Paul received his M.A. in English from the University of R.I. He did graduate Studies at Fordham University, St. Johns University and Hofstra University. Calling hours for Brother Paul will be at the La Salle Academy Brothers Chapel on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 3:00 8:00 pm. A Prayer service, with time for sharing memories of Brother Paul, will be held from 7:00 -8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Pius V Church, 55 Elmhurst Avenue, Providence. Burial will be at Christian Brothers Center, Narragansett. Donations may be made to the Brother Amian Paul Goodwin Scholarship fund at La Salle Academy.
