Freida I. Johnson, 86, of Kingston, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was beloved wife of Harry M. Johnson. Born in Hopknton, RI, she was the daughter of the late Courtland C. and Ida (Babcock) Stanton. Mrs. Johnson worked at the University of Rhode Island for sixteen years before retiring and previously for the former Joseph H. Ladd Center. She was a royal member of the Narragansett Indian tribe and enjoyed camping, ceramics, sewing, crocheting and playing cards. She was the mother of Ida E. Rounseville of Jewitt City, CT and the late Harry M. Johnson Jr.; aunt and like a mother to Michelle Mars Stanton of Washington, DC; grandmother of Nichole D. Johnson of Ledyard, CT; and great grandmother of Angel Feather Spears Johnson and Brandy Ray Caldwall Johnson; sister of Philip Stanton, Jacqueline Jones and the late Courtland, Charles, and Horatio Stanton, Daisy Hazard White, Ida Cumbo, Mildred Babcock Stanton, and Sarah Tavares. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
