Freeman A. Healy, Jr., 96, of Wakefield, passed away at home with his children by his side on Saturday, August 4, 2018. He was the husband of the late Jane C. (Craddock) Healy to whom he was happily married for 71 years until her passing in 2015. Born in South Kingstown, he was the son of the late Freeman A. Healy, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Whaley) Healy. Mr. Healy was employed by the Wakefield Branch Company for 33 years where he managed the fuel oil and propane gas department. In 1962, he established the Healy News Store in Wakefield and what started as a hobby became a successful business which he owned and operated for almost 40 years. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his wife, taking family trips to Las Vegas, golfing and spending time with his family. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He is survived by his son, Stephen D. Healy (Paula) of Ballston Lake, NY, daughters Mary Beth H. Backer (Jim) of Okatie, SC and Sally H. Minetti (Jerry) of Wakefield, daughter in law Mary Healy of Coral Springs, FL, and was predeceased by his son James C. Healy. He was the grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of sixteen; brother of Evelyn T. Holloway, the late Mary Elizabeth Brown, Radcliffe Healy, and Richard S. Healy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11am at the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St, Peace Dale. Visiting hours will be Friday, August 10, 2018 from 5-7pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284-9168.
