Frank Eliot Taylor, (Eliot) passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, Sept. 12 at South County Nursing Home. He was 92. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary Conlon Taylor, son Robert, daughter in law Penny, grandsons Adam and Michael, and four great grandchildren. Eliot worked for many years at Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool in West Hartford, Conn. Upon his retirement, he returned to Great Island, earning the nickname “The Mayor.” Among his many accomplishments, which included his proud service in the Army Air Corps in the Asia Pacific Theater during World War II, Eliot will best be remembered for his involvement in the community and his generosity and philanthropy. Eliot was instrumental in the transformation of the South Kingston Senior Center in the mid1990s. He worked tirelessly as the Chairperson of the Senior Youth Association Capital Campaign to secure the funding necessary to help build and furnish the new facility. He remained a fixture of the organization calling bingo games on Thursdays and holding various leadership positions for the Senior Youth Association, including President, Vice President and Treasurer, as well as editor of the Senior Youth Newsletter for 25 years. His influence in the community extended beyond the Senior Center. Eliot was recognized for his community service in April 1999 by the State of Rhode Island. Governor Lincoln Almond proclaimed April 16, 1999 as Eliot Taylor Appreciation Day for his contributions to the community. Eliot was recognized by the Narragansett Town Council and was awarded the Lifetime Knights of Rockingham award as an outstanding Narragansett citizen volunteer. Eliot was a lifetime member of the Richmond Grange, a member of the Salt Ponds Coalition and a lifetime member of VFW Post 916 where for many years he participated in the annual poppy sale. Eliot was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him. Calling hours and service will take place on Friday, Sept. 20 from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI.
