Francis W. Zyons

WW II US Army Veteran Francis W. "Zinc" Zyons, 88, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on Feb 12, 2015 at the Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wakefield. He was the beloved and dedicated husband of the late Joan (Wilson) Zyons. They were married 53 years. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Alexander and Victoria(Fortuna) Zyons. He worked for over 20 years at Glass-Kraft in Slatersville and 20 years for the Cumberland Highway Department, before retiring. He was a graduate of Edgewater Jr College (Barrington College). He served honorably in the US Army during WW II. He was the loving father of David F Zyons and wife Karen of Peace Dale, Debra Zyons Howe and husband Fred of Wenatchee, WA, Laurie Z Wood and husband Steve of Manitou Springs ,Co. and Mark F Zyons and wife Dawn of Green Hill. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Benjamin Zyons, Jake Wood, and Zachary Zyons, and Jessica and Jamie Panciera. He is also survived by his dear sister Veronica (Ronni) Sozek of Cumberland as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gladys DeRosier and Alexander Zyons. A lifelong avid fisherman, he enjoyed fishing and family time on Cape Cod, the Narragansett Sea Wall and the Point Judith Lighthouse. He will be remembered by many for his warm smile, blue eyes, and generous heart. In memory of Zinc donations can be made to The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association or The Salt Ponds Coalition. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
