Francis Knight, 90, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 26, 2017. He was the husband of the late Gloria (Smith) Knight. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Reynolds) Knight. Mr. Knight served in the U.S army of the occupation in Japan. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1954 and became an engineer for CI Hayes for many years before retiring. He enjoyed boating and entertaining at their home on Salt Pond in Narragansett. He loved gardening and working in the yard, while also taking the time to travel and explore new, historical places with friends and family. Mr. Knight has been residing at the Veteran Home in Bristol for the past few years, where he received wonderful care. In early June, he traveled on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC where he and other WW !! and Korean War veterans visited the war memorials. He had three children, Jonathan Knight and his wife Jeanne, Heidi-Lynn Pospisil and her husband Randal, and the late Bruce Knight; grandchildren Trevor, Brett, Julie-Ann, and Kyle Knight, Lisa Franken, Renee Schroeder, and the late Teddy Pospisil, and eight cherished great-grandchildren. He had a wonderful friend in Inez Crowley. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:00 in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to URI Foundation Gloria Smith Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund.
