Frances C. Luther (Winward), 89, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 with her son and two daughters at her side. She was the wife of the late, Thomas A. Luther, a marriage of 55 years. Born July 10, 1923 in West Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Claire (Lemmis) Winward. Frances was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy in Providence. She was employed as a supervisor of Telephone Operations at Fleet National Bank until her retirement. She lived and raised her family in Cranston and then retired to her home in Charlestown. Her greatest joy was cooking and hosting family gatherings. She was a contributor, along with several of her friends, to a book entitled “The Quonochontaug Sea Gals Cookbook”. Her love of the beach inspired an annual Fourth of July family and friends gathering at her home in Quonochontaug where she would showcase her clam chowder. She is survived by her three children: Thomas A. Luther of Wakefield, Susan L. Mundy of North Smithfield, and Carol L. Connolly of Indialantic, FL; six grandchildren: Thomas, Andrew, and Emily Luther, Lauren and Sarah Mundy, and Shannon Connolly. She is also survived by her sisters: Eileen Sunner and Barbara Irish; and sister-in-law Anne Luther. Visiting hours will be Friday at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, from 9- 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flower donations in her memory, may be made to the Kathleen Markley Luther Memorial Fund, 62 Tanager Road, Seekonk, MA 02771.
