Frances Christofaro, mother, grandmother, and long-time resident of South Kingstown RI died unexpectedly but peacefully in her home on the morning of February 29 at the age of 85. Born on July 25th, 1934 to Frederick and Dora Herold in Fairfield CT, Fran is survived by her sister Joan and daughters Terese and Maureen. Fran was a 1952 graduate from Roger Ludlowe High School where the "Queen of the Sweetheart Swing" was known for her blonde hair and outgoing nature. After working as a writer at the Bridgeport Post and as a crossing guard, Fran found joy in bus driving the elderly for the town of West Hartford CT, a position she held for 15 years. Fran raised her daughters in Enfield CT before relocating to Rhode Island in 1994 to enjoy her retirement as close to the ocean as possible. "Nannie" was a doting grandmother to her five grandchildren Sarah, Amy, Lisa, John, and Elaina, and welcomed her first great grandchild Zac in 2019. Outside of soaking up the sun and socializing, Fran was a lover of the arts. She enjoyed the theater, dancing, and painting. She would frequently sing songs from her youth and practice the French that she learned during her summers spent outside of Montreal as a child and teen. In addition to her family and a lifetime of friends and admirers, Fran leaves behind an impressive collection of original artwork and an even more impressive collection of hats. She loved sunshine and would like nothing more than to know that she left the world a little bit brighter. Her family and friends will celebrate her life and legacy at Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Saturday April 18th with an hour of visitation from 11am - 12 Noon followed by a service at 12 Noon.
