Florence M. Gadzik

Florence Gadzik, 78, of Matunuck, RI, died Sunday at home. She was the beloved wife of John A Gadzik for 58 years. Born in Kensington, CT, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Polgrosek) Mazzali. She graduated from Berlin, CT High School and was active in many organizations. She served as president of the Evening Y. Wives, president of the Willimantic Jr. Women’s Club, president of Mansfield Fire Auxiliary, Chairman of the Republican Town Committee (Mansfield, CT), chairman of University League Day Trippers, President of the Island View Association in Wakefield and a member of SHEMCA Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed travelling, including with the Elder Hostel, and will be remembered as being full of life and a devoted wife and mother. Besides her husband she is survived by three children, Lynne Knight of Scotland, CT, Charles Gadzik of Thomaston, ME and Thomas Gadzik of Scotland, CT; three grandchildren Kathleen, Olney and Jane; and a great grandson Tyler Michael. The funeral will be Thursday 8:45 AM from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Matunuck. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-7 PM.
