Florence Demagistris

Florence DeMagistris, age 92, of Narragansett, R.I., died peacefully following a very brief illness, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Anthony R. DeMagistris. Born in Newport, R.I., the daughter of the late Alphonse and Laura (Belair) Forest, Florence graduated from Cumberland High School and later from the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1940. She had a distinguished career as a Registered Nurse of over 50 years. She was the sister of the late Rita McKenna and the late Roland Forest and is survived by her beloved brother Robert Forest and wife Emily, of Sarasota Florida, and by many nieces and nephews. Florence is survived by her five loving children; daughters, Carol Law and husband, George, Susan Lapisky and husband, Michael, and sons William DeMagistris and wife, Denise, and Robert and Stephen; and also by her beloved grandchildren Leslie, Lori, Tim, Kate, Ryan, Jennifer and Martin and great grandchildren Jonathan, Jackson, William, Merrit, Sarah and Georgia. Florence was a devoted, loving, encouraging and proud mother and grandmother, with a natural compassion and empathy that also characterized her work as a nurse. All are grateful that she remained so much a part of their lives until her death. The spirit of generosity, gentle disposition, kindness, wonderful sense of humor she passes on are deeply appreciated by her family and so many others. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday at St. Romuald Chapel, 61 Atlantic Street, Matunuck. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Sunday, 3-6 PM.
