Evelyn M. Arnold

June 17, 1935 — September 13, 2014

Evelyn M. (Cooper) Arnold of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Arnold was the wife of George E. Arnold, Jr. for 57 years. Born in Pawtucket, she was the youngest child of the late John and Margaret (Blezard) Cooper. She was the loving sister of the late Gladys (Cooper) and Emile Chartier, the late Doris (Cooper) and Albert Barry, the late Ronald and Joan Cooper, the late Edith (Cooper) and Theodore Chmura, and the late James Cooper. Mrs. Arnold was a wonderful mother to her son, Douglas and his wife Sandra and her son David, all of Wakefield. She was the beloved and devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren, Lauren, Douglas, and David. Mrs. Arnold is survived by several nieces and nephews. Before retiring, Mrs. Arnold was the office manager at the FW Woolworth Co., where she worked for over 30 years. In her younger days, Mrs. Arnold held a black belt in Judo and was an avid bowler and skier. She was a member of the Tower Hill Fire Co. Women’s Auxillary and the Middlebridge Association. During her retirement, Mrs. Arnold volunteered at South County Hospital and spent many joyful hours volunteering her time at Church of the Ascension, where she was a communicant since 1957. Calling Hours are Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A service of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Ascension on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at RI Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mrs. Evelyn Arnold to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 No. Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or Church of the Ascension, 370 Main Street, Wakefield, RI 02879.
