Evan Robert Prefontaine, 42, of South Kingstown, passed away on September 10, 2021. Born and raised in South Kingstown, he is survived by his beloved daughter Codie, his girlfriend Katherine Rishton, and his parents, Robert and Victoria (Geaber) Prefontaine of Maine. He was the brother of Celeste Richard of Scituate and Nicole Ingram and her husband Scott of Ashaway. He was the “cool” uncle to Aidan Wright, Taylor Ingram, and Trevor Ingram, and loyal human to his dogs Kaia and Maisel. He was the grandson of the late Frederick and Edith (Card) Prefontaine and Joseph and Mary Beulah (Hash) Geaber. Evan’s creativity and talent in carpentry and cabinet making was astounding, his skills learned from many years working alongside his father, Bob. He was always there to lend a helping hand, widely known as the man to call when you needed something built, fixed, figured out, or an emergency assist from a jack-of-all-trades, so long as he didn’t have to be on time. He was a phenomenal artist who created beautiful pieces carving wood or deer antlers, pencil sketching, and even designed some of his many tattoos. An avid outdoorsman and huntsman, Evan had an affinity to nature. He enjoyed cooking a gourmet meal over an open fire, camping in the wilderness, or existing completely off the grid. He began hunting rabbits with his slingshot as a young boy, advancing to hunting deer, wild turkey, and other wild game with a black powder rifle, a compound bow, and a rifle. He learned from his father to never hunt what you won’t eat. He recently broadened his expertise by obtaining his falconry license, and with his sponsor, was well on his way to mastering the art of hunting with birds of prey. He was keen to share his passions, patiently teach anyone who wanted to learn, and was always ready to embark on an adventure. His level of badassery was unrivaled when riding a Harley, snowmobile, four-wheeler, or any machine he could ride like the wind. Evan effortlessly made new friends wherever he went and could connect to people from all walks of life. He treasured his relationships with his family and a multitude of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. His sense of humor and adventure could snare anyone in his infamous hijinks. His capacity to love was as boundless as the ocean, but unfortunately, he struggled to extend that love to himself. He was sadly lost to this battle he bravely fought for most of his life, while somehow managing to hide the full weight of the darkness overwhelming him from those who were closest to and most cherished by him. Evan’s last wishes were that Codie and Katherine were looked after. In lieu of flowers and all other social dictates he abhorred, please honor his wishes in the years to come. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evan Prefontaine Memorial Fund at Washington Trust, 20 Point Judith Rd., Narragansett, RI 02879. Donations can be mailed or deposited at the bank.
