Eugene B. Mckee Md

February 13, 1934 — February 14, 2024

Eugene B. McKee MD, 90, of Narragansett RI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 14th, 2024. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Eugene R. McKee and Anna (Mallon) McKee. Gene is survived by his wife Patricia (Dalton), children Matthew, his wife Melissa (Danchik), their daughters Emily and Adeline; Mary Ellen and her husband Michael Staebler MD, their four children Jack, Julia, Kathryn, Aidan; Kathleen Ann; Sean and his wife Stacey (Pevzner). Predeceased by his beloved daughter, Clare Margaret.


Gene graduated from St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket at the age 16, graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 1955, where he was a member of ROTC. Gene received his medical degree from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland in 1961; the first graduate from the United States. He completed his medical internship and residency at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.


Gene was a Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force, served as the Chief of Aerospace Medicine at Otis Air Force Base. After leaving active duty, his transition to civilian life included a role as Medical Director for United Airlines. In addition to the above, he continued to serve in the Air National Guard. He retired after 29 years of service with the rank of Colonel.


Gene started his family practice in Wakefield, RI touching many lives in the South County community in over 40 years of practice. He was also the Medical Director at Electric Boat facility in North Kingstown, Quality Assurance Director at South County Hospital. He finished his career as the Medical Director at the Treatment Center in North Kingstown, retiring at age 80.


Gene had a sharp mind and enjoyed meeting new people and hearing their stories.


After retiring from medical practice Gene embarked on a life-long passion to write, publishing four books. Gene was a member of the Mensa Society, a Docent at the John Brown House in Providence and a member of the South County Writers Group.


Gene was an avid runner and a long-time participant in the annual Blessing of the Fleet race in Narragansett. He completed a total of three marathons in Dublin, Berlin and Boston at the age of 70.


Gene also enjoyed playing golf, traveling, skiing, swimming and spending time with this family. He liked to play the piano and ukulele. Gene was known to cut a serious rug on the dance floor and enjoyed a dry Martini without Vermouth.


Gene was a long-time member of the Dunes Club and a former member of the Point Judith Country Club.


Gene was loved, lived a full life and will be forever in our memories.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, 10 AM at Christ the King Parish. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 4 to 6 PM in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
