Eugene O. “Gene” Champlin, 87, of Narragansett passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born in South Kingstown, a son of the late Milfred Champlin, Sr. and Pearl B. (Reels) Champlin.
Gene worked as a landscaper for many years throughout the Narragansett area. He previously worked with Frank DiGiacomo in the excavating business. He was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe and was known as “Redman”. He belonged to the Surfcasters Club in Narragansett, “Get the Gaff”, and was a member of the Rhode Island Antique Tractor Club.
Gene is survived by his brother, Douglas W. Champlin; his sisters, Virginia Perry, Sheila Champlin-Levy, Donna Maddox and Gail Champlin. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his brothers, Milford “Mickey”, Craig, and Gary Champlin; and his sisters, Barbara Sekator, Shirley Christy, Gloria Fry, and Cynthia Champlin.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at New Fernwood Cemetery in Kingston, RI.
