Ethel Louise (Jacobsen) Aucott, 74, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2008 at home. She was the loving wife of the late John P. Aucott who died in 1996. They would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this November 6th. She was born in Jersey City, NJ, attended Narragansett Elementary School for several years, returned to NJ and later attended Demarest High School in Hoboken, NJ. While attending high school, she participated in the Debating Team, Golf Club, Stoverian Dramatic Club, Senior Play, Tennis Club, Oratorial Contest and was Editor in Chief of the yearbook. Her senior yearbook quote was “I wanna go to Rhode Island!” She graduated from Jersey City State Teachers College and worked as an elementary school teacher in Fort Lee, NJ for several years. In the early part of her life she spent her summers in Narragansett, as had several previous generations of her family. A long time member of St Peters By the Sea, where as a teenager she was a soloist for the choir. She and her husband eventually moved from Ridgefield, NJ and later made Narragansett their permanent home, where she lived until her death. Beloved mother of John Edward and Charles Philip. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ethel Jacobsen (Kenna) and Edwin Jacobsen. She was very active in several organizations in South County, including the SC Chapter of AARP where she served as chapter President for several years. She enjoyed many trips with the Narragansett Seniors and meeting with her Wednesday morning breakfast group. She truly loved Narragansett, the ocean and her pets, especially her golden retriever Sir Lancelot. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at St Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St., Narragansett. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Friday 6-8 PM at AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the South Kingstown Dog Park Association, PO Box 5605, Wakefield, RI 02880.
