Ernest A. Turnbull

March 20, 1933 — September 3, 2022

Ernest A. Turnbull, 89, passed away peacefully September 3rd, 2022, surrounded by his family in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born to Mary (Gilmore) Feeney and the late Ernest Turnbull, Sr. of Providence, Rhode Island on March 20th, 1933. Ernest spent a lifetime on the coast of Rhode Island, hand-in-hand with his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Turnbull. A family-man at heart, Ernie spent many of his early years working to care for his mother and sisters after the loss of his father.

PVT Ernest A. Turnbull was enlisted in the U.S. Army at a young age and served in the Korean War. His proudest accomplishment was to raise four children in Narragansett, Rhode Island with his wife Barbara. Through his youth, he learned the value of teamwork and discipline. As a founding member of Pop Warner Football in his hometown, he was known as a leader and a coach in the community.

If a child was ever injured, he would jokingly assure them that he had a spare arm or leg in his car for them, which would always make them laugh and smile. His love for football was carried through as a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of the New England Patriots.

The northeast native was an avid collector of antiques and knickknacks. As a painter, he could often be found in his shed or on his back porch getting ready for his next project. Ernest is remembered through his family and the many memories of cookouts shared on Major Arnold Road.

Ernest was a devoted man-dedicated to his wife, his friends, and most of all, his family. He was a beacon to whom people gravitated for advice, comfort, a good laugh, and friendship. His door was always open.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses: James Turnbull of Connecticut; Dave Turnbull & (Shelly) of Westerly; Brian Turnbull & (Sayaka) of Ft. Lauderdale; Stacey (Turnbull) Baytarian & (Peter) of Jupiter and ten grandchildren: Marissa Turnbull, Maryann Turnbull, Briana Turnbull, Drew Turnbull, Katelynn Holliday, Connor Holliday, Adrianna Baytarian, Nicolette Baytarian, Jax Turnbull, Valentina Turnbull, and his great grandson Tye Masucci.

Ernest is predeceased by his mother Mary (Gilmore) Feeney; father late Ernest Turnbull, Sr.; sisters Vivian and Barbara; and grandchildren Annabelle Baytarian and Ernest Turnbull.
