Eric Harrah

August 3, 1928 — July 5, 2017

Eric Harrah of Wakefield died on July 5, 2017, after a long illness. He was born in Narragansett on August 3, 1928, the son of Ernest and Maude Harrah, of Mt. Kisco, NY and Narragansett. He graduated from St. Paul's School and Harvard. After college, Eric moved to Rhode Island and never felt the slightest desire to leave. He enjoyed building, buying, renovating, renting and selling houses in Narragansett and Wakefield. He loved cars, buying new models on a regular basis, and providing lucky second-hand car buyers with perfectly-maintained, immaculate vehicles. He was a dedicated gardener with a special interest in an ever-expanding collection of houseplants and exotic bulbs. He owned a series of much loved cats adopted from the Animal Rescue League. Eric was thoughtful and generous, with a sharp wit and zeal for privacy. He was a faithful supporter of South County Hospital, the Animal Rescue League, the Galilee Mission, St. Peter's by the Sea, and a number of other local organizations. Eric was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Sheila Harrah Hearne. He is survived by his sister Lorna Harrah Bruen of Alexandria VA, his nephew Alexander Bruen, his niece Moira Hearne Hintsa, and two great-nephews. His family would like to thank Pamela Beaver, Bruce Hoyle, Laurie McConnell, and Kristin Dyer for their extraordinary kindness and care for Eric in his later years, and Martha Day, Esq. for her many years of sensitive and thoughtful management of his needs. Services will be private.
