Emma Mai Reed, born on August 26, 1913, and a resident of South Kingstown, for 99 years, passed away at the age of 102 on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Apple Clipper in Westerly and is now in the loving arms of her creator and re-united with those she loved who passed before her, especially her husband the late William Reed. She leaves a son, George E. Reed and his wife, Marjorie of Groton, CT, a daughter, Judith M, Goley and husband, Robert of East Berlin, PA, a daughter Linda Eileen Harvey, of Exeter, RI, and a daughter, Wendy Marie Roberts of South Kingstown, RI, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. While raising her family, Emma worked at the University of Rhode Island for many years until her retirement. She was a complex, multi-faceted lady that had many areas of interest in her lifetime. Emma had a passion for music, Crossword puzzles, reading, loved feeding and watching birds, gardening, and her beloved Patriot’s and UConn Women’s basketball. She was the best company for those who knew her, and loved by all. She was devoted to her children and their families and always held each one of them individually in a special place in her heart. Emma’s gift to her children was the unconditional love of family that has been woven into the fabric of their lives and will remain with them always. The family wishes to thank the Apple Rehab Clipper Home for its three years of loving care given to Emma as well as The South Team of LTC Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI for the comfort provided to Emma and her family in her final days. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11 am at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will be private in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Apple Rehab Clipper, 161 Post Rd, Westerly, RI 02891.
