Emilia (Tavares) Provensal, 54, of Wakefield, RI, passed away on March 3, 2024, after a five year battle with cancer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late James P. Provensal, and the loving and proud mother of Zacharie James and Sarah Elizabeth Provensal. She was the beloved daughter of Olivia L. Tavares and the late Manuel Tavares.
Emilia graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Marketing. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, where she served as a house parent along with Jim following their graduation. As a proud alum, she enjoyed attending events on campus, including the 5K which she organized in Jim’s memory.
She fought a courageous battle with cancer. Her unwavering faith In God’s plan and boundless love for her children kept her going. She was well respected within her community, and was known for her radiant smile. She had a love for cooking, gardening, and spending time at the beach. Above all, her greatest passion was caring for her family and tending to her home.
Along with her children and mother, she also leaves behind her brother, Robert M. Tavares and his wife Jessie and their daughters, Maya and Lauren; and her sister, Christina L. Nichols and her husband Jeffry and their son, Carter and late son Carson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland St., Narragansett. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale, RI.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mila may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
