Emil Harold Anderson

July 17, 1920 — March 10, 2015

Emil Harold Anderson, beloved husband of the late Beverly Annie (Neilsen) Anderson and long-time native of Rhode Island having lived in Warwick, Lincoln, Wyoming, and South Kingston, passed away on March 10 in Fairfax, Virginia. He is the son of the late Carl and Esther Anderson and the brother of the late G. Raymond Anderson and Gladys Moultrop of Warwick. He is survived by his sister Doris Fallon; children Linda and husband Mark Friend, Dana and wife Kathy, Ken and wife Patricia; grandchildren Rachel and husband Mark Zuckerman, Rebecca Friend, Quinn Anderson, Jared Anderson, Kyle Anderson and Eric Anderson; and great-grandson Brian Zuckerman. Harold served in the US Navy, 23rd Construction Battalion (“Seabees”) in Alaska and Guam during World War II. He was a tool and die-maker by trade and co-founded the United Machine Company in Lincoln in 1958, specializing in fabrication and industrial machinery repair. He successfully ran that business until he sold it in 1998. Active in his community, he was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 64 of Saylesville. He was a Past Master of the Free and Accepted Masons, Charity Lodge #23, Lonsdale (now Kenyon). Harold and Beverly were active members of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Hope Valley for 37 years, 17 of which they served as Lay Eucharist Ministers. Harold loved his family and friends and he embodied the Seabees “Can Do” motto. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 15 from 4-7 p.m. at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Hope Valley. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Beverly Anderson “Butterfly” Fund, St. Elizabeth’s Church, 63 Canonchet Road, Hope Valley, RI 02832.
