Elwood M. Davis, Jr., "Woody" 70, of Saunderstown, RI, died suddenly Friday night, February 6, 2009. He was the beloved husband for 13 years of Carolyn Blum Davis. Born January 4th, 1939 to the late Elwood M. Davis and Mary Madenford Davis, Woody grew up in Scarsdale, NY, and lived much of his life there and in Armonk, NY. Besides his loving wife Carolyn, he is survived by three children and spouses, daughter Connie and Adam Manes of Kent, CT, son Brian and Tory Davis of Scarborough, ME and son Derek and Alison Davis, also of Scarborough, ME; eight grandchildren – Jules, Woody and Fuller Manes, Cooper and Oscar Davis, and Finnian, Bridget and Maeve Davis. Woody is further survived by his very dear friend Richard and his wife Patty Debany, and their sons Matt and Sam. Woody graduated from Scarsdale High School and Davis and Elkins University. His long career in sales and marketing was primarily at Pitney Bowes for 32 years, serving in various positions, retiring as Director, National Account Sales. A lifelong athlete, Woody played baseball and football in both high school and college. He stayed active in senior softball leagues, playing for the Scarsdale Black Sox and other NY teams, the New Jersey Jaguars, and several Rhode Island teams. He was an avid fisherman, using fly-fishing and spin-casting techniques for king salmon in Alaska and small-mouth bass in Washington County, ME. Woody devoted himself to helping others and to civic engagement. He was the leader of the Scarsdale boy scout troop for several years. He was a volunteer fire fighter for 40 years and served as President in Scarsdale, NY, Commissioner and President in Armonk, NY and President in Exeter, RI. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 11th, at St. Augustine’s Church, 35 Lower College Road,Kingston (on URI campus) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a service at 7:00pm. A second service will be saturday February 14th at 1 PM in the Armonk Independent Fire Department house and burial will follow in the First Congreegational Church Cemetery, Old Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Woody’s memory can be made to the Woody Davis Memorial Fund, Exeter #1 Volunteer Fire Department, and mailed to 305 Ten Rod Road, Exeter, RI 02822.
