Elma C. Christopher, 88, of South Road, Kingston, died Monday. She was the wife of the late Dr. John Kitchin and the late Dr. Everett Christopher. Born inn South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Smith) Cottrell. Mrs. Christopher was a Registered Nurse at South County Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Rhode Island Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, the Richmond Grange # 6, the Washington County Pamona Grange, the Rhode Island State and National Grange, the Richmond Grange, where she was the longtime Treasurer, Kingston Improvement Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the General Federation of Women’s Club of South County, and the Senior Book Club. Her hobbies included woodworking and gardening. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Wildes of Little Compton; a son, Dr. Kirk Kitchin of Durham, NC; two brothers, Oliver Cottrell of West Kingston and Richard Cottrell of Exeter; three sisters, Gertrude Hawksley of Wakefield, Janice Recher of Wakefield and Patricia Salisbury of West Kingston; nine grandchildren, Angela, Erick, Katy, Carla, Jenny, Cindy, Tommy, Steven and David; two step-daughters, Elizabeth Meade of Sandyhook, VA and Carolyn Skaggs of Kingston. She was the sister of the late J. Jesse Cottrell, Edith Boothroyd and Marion Roehl. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 17 at 1 PM in the Kingston Congregational Church.
