Elizabeth Rose Stanton, 77, of Charlestown passed away Friday May 18, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in South Kingstown on July 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Mars) Champlin. Elizabeth worked in dining services for the University of Rhode Island for twenty eight years before retiring in 1999; a decision she made due to the birth of her grandson this same year and she would now dedicate herself to him. She was a faithful volunteer at the Westerly Warm Shelter for many years and a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. All that knew her knew her to be a giving, selfless person and caregiver to many, a true matriarch to her children and siblings. She leaves her children, Fawn A. Stanton of MD, Charles R. Stanton Jr., of East Greenwich, Pasco C. Stanton of North Kingstown, Carla L. Monroe and her husband Chris of Charlestown, Michelle M. Stanton of Washington, DC, Lisa F. Stanton of Washington, DC, Jacqueline A. Stanton and her husband Lonny W. Brown Sr. of Hopkinton; sisters, Ann F. Souza of MD and Lorraine L. Champlin of Westerly; grandchildren, Lonny W. Brown, Jr., Charly Rose Stanton, Austin J. Vieira, Tyrell Wills and Minneaush Stanton. She is predeceased by three brothers; Ralph Champlin, Ronald Champlin and William Champlin Jr. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM in Riverside Cemetery, High St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Westerly Warm Shelter.
