Elizabeth Betty Sekator

January 12, 1930 — June 29, 2018

Elizabeth "Betty" Sekator, 88, formerly of Ocean Road, Narragansett, passed away Friday, June 29th. Born in Narragansett, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Pauline (Thomas) Taylor. She received her Bachelors degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, helping her to become an accomplished artist, and another Bachelors degree from URI in 1995. Mrs. Sekator was employed by the University of Rhode Island in the Oceanography Department and prior to that she was the Library Circulation Department Head. She retired in 1998 after 28 years. She had also worked for Senator Claiborne Pell in Washington DC. She was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. She is survived by a daughter, Joanne Carosella of Narragansett; three sons, Benjamin Sekator of Kingston, Thomas Sekator of Connecticut, and Robert Sekator of California; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was the sister of the late Anna Mae Yancy, Jean Estes, and Patricia Stephens. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Thursday 4-6 pm, followed by a service at 6 pm. Burial will be private.
