Elizabeth S. Doherty

Elizabeth S. Doherty (Giampapa), 77, of Charlestown and formerly of Walpole, MA, died Thursday, exactly one year after her beloved husband of 56 years, the late James J. Doherty, Jr. The youngest of ten children, she was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Sebastian and Elizabeth (Casali) Giampapa. Mrs. Doherty will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a Telephone Operator for the New England Telephone Company for 25 years and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She is survived by a son, Dr. James Doherty of Illinois; three daughters and their spouses, Ellen and Mickey Thweatt of Charlestown, Donna and Russell Jones of West Greenwich and Carol and Shawn McCarthy of Wrentham, MA; eleven grandchildren; a brother, Sebastian Giampapa of Coventry and a sister, Gloria Hinton of Dedham, MA. The funeral will be 8:45 AM Tuesday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 437 Carolina Back Road (Rt. 112), Carolina. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Monday 5-8 PM.
